Maple helps fight involuntary churn by handling failed payments and delinquencies smartly. You can maximize recovery of revenue by automating payment retry mechanisms and customer payment information update notifications ahead of card expirations.

Dunning is the process used by businesses to reduce payment failures and collect outstanding payments from customers in a timely manner. Maple provides the following levers for dunning.

Failed Payment Retries

Payments failures are not uncommon and can occur for a variety of reasons.

If a payment fails, Maple continues to retry failed payments for invoices that can be auto charged. Payment retries can also be triggered on a per invoice basis from the web application.

To configure Failed Payment Retries,

  • Go to Settings > Invoices
  • Scroll down the the Invoice Reminders section
  • Enable the Send Reminders toggle

Now you can configure the action you want to take a set period of time. Eg

  • 1 day after payment fails, Retry the payment and email the customer
  • 7 day after payment fails, Retry the payment again and email the customer
  • 14 day after payment fails, Notify the Account Owner
  • 28 days after payment fails, Cancel the subscription

Unpaid Invoice Reminders

Once invoices are generated, Maple can send automated dunning messages at regular intervals and escalate communications when payments are past due. The reminder schedule can be fully configured through the Maple web application.

To configure Unpaid Invoice Reminders,

  • Go to Settings > Invoices
  • Scroll down the the Invoice Reminders section
  • Enable the Manage Invoice Reminder Schedule toggle
  • Click Change

There are three default configurations of invoice reminders that can be enabled within Maple - Basic, Lenient, and Persistent.

You can also create a custom schedule based on your preference.

Continuous Reminders

You can enable Continuous reminders that are sent on a recurring cadence starting from the date of the last preset reminder. In the below image, the continuous reminders will start 3 days after the Day 9 reminder and repeat every 3 days until the reminders are manually stopped.

Credit Card Expiry Notifications

Maple automates messages to customers to remind them of the expiration date of their credit card. These notifications trigger customers to update their payment method to avoid situations where their card gets declined or blocked due to an expired credit card.

To configure Credit Card Expiry Notifications,

  • Go to Settings > Invoices
  • Scroll down the the Invoice Reminders section
  • Enable the Card Expiry Reminder Schedule toggle
  • Click Change
